Méduse Talks With… Eva, of Girls’n Nantes

31 Mar , 2015

GirlsNantes - Meduse interview 3

At Méduse, we strive to seek out the underground talents who share our values. Every week,  a new star…

We’re whisking you off to a fairy-tale land with Eva, a blogger from Nantes who rides on her unicorn and sprinkles her glitter dust all around her town. She’s quirky, cool and leaves a sparkly trail of Méduse wherever she goes!

GirlsNantes - Meduse interview 2

Who are you Jelly lover?

Eva, 34 years old, and still in good shape ! I have 2 kids, who are 4 and 6 (rock’n’roll!). I write a lifestyle blog, where I make my readers discover Nantes on a unicorn’s back. My favorite colour is a sparkly pink !

What makes you an eccentric person?

Good question, I have always felt a bit different! I would say that I sparkle from head to toe.

 GirlsNantes - Meduse interview 4

Tell us something crazy you have done!

I lived in Paris for 10 years! Unbearable for a country girl, or someone like me coming from a smaller city. I’m kidding, I enjoyed my life in Paris. I do crazy things everyday and I want every minute to be a burst of laughter.

One word to describe Méduse 😀 ?

Only one ? FUN.

We read a recent article on your blog about the “do’s & don’ts” for Spring. What would be your ‘do’s’ for wearing Méduse this summer?

At the beach, on the rocks, at parties with sparkling socks and a mini skirt, and in town of course. There’s no specific reason. Everything goes with Méduse!

We have a lot in common Eva – we are also from Nantes :-). If you were to take someone to visit Nantes, where would you go?

Ooh, a neighbor from Nantes <3

I would take them on a traditional tour to the “Les Machines de l’Ile”, a visit to the Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne where I am living of course! … not really ;-).

Then, I’d go for a stroll in Trentemoult, a drink at the bar Le Nid, and try out all the good restaurants.. because food is life!

 GirlsNantes - Meduse interview

Et voila! We’re off now, to hop on Eva’s unicorn and fly back to our hometown of Méduse! Fancy joining?

We’d like to send a huge jelly-hug to Eva, for her interview! You’ve been a star – or should we say unicorn 😉

Discover Eva’s blog, Twitter and Facebook  to see what magic she sparks in her world!

Au revoir for now!

If you’ve been keeping your eyes peeled this week, you’ll know that we’ve been feeling rather arty and abstract.

Yep, this week was all about expressing yourself (just like Labrinth), and in our case – Expressing Méduse!

So with that in mind, we spoke to two very, very talented girls, who express Méduse in their own individual way.

First we spoke to Ruvé Staneke, an Australian artist who creates self portraits and can dream and sketch jellies!

And yesterday, we spoke to Virginie! A girl who loves to dive into creating NIKITA and JUMPY! Take a look at this!

Méduse Talks… With Virginie Cappoen

27 Mar , 2015

NIKITA

At Méduse, we strive to seek out the underground talents who share our values. Every week,  a new star…

Since we spotted her artwork, we were dreaming about getting in touch with her… If you’re used to hanging out on our blog, you can’t have missed it – Virginie, is an exceptional artist, and she expresses her Méduse like a true artist, who is in her zone with a crayon or paint brush in hand.

A fan of our NIKITA, she told us a story about Méduse and she took us by the hand, through her playground. As she voices her words – everything comes to standstill.

VC - SUN Meduse VC - NIKITA GREEN Meduse

Where does your inspiration come from?
I try to grab inspiration from a lot of things. It could be an object, an image, an exhibition or a film! Childhood is an endless source of inspiration. Indeed, my favourite artists have a very childish style to them. It’s impossible to mention them all, but among them you can find Steinberg, Picasso, Twombly, Basquiat, Sottsass, Cocteau… I like art to be spontaneous, refined, clumsy, funny and not pretentious. And generally, I like fantasy, humour, romanticism and poetry!
Your work is defined through particular use of colours. How do you decide on the use of certain colours? Is it impulsive or do you think about it beforehand?

Adding colour within art is not an easy step. From time to time you can have unexpected outcomes, but I like to try a lot of different techniques: acrylic, watercolours, felt-tip pens, colouring pencils and pastels – which I like the most!
VC - NIKITA GREEN1 Meduse
We love your work on Méduse – of course 😉 ! How does the Méduse world inspire you?
I am a total fan of Méduse! I like the quirky side and the playfulness. Of course it reminds me of my childhood. They are really comfortable and you can have all the colours! I almost only wear them in the summer! I can’t live without them!
VC - NIKITA RED Meduse
If you had play-doh in your hands right now, what would you do with it?
I would try to create a Méduse collection!
What is your favourite Instagram filter for posting your picture?
All these filters are really cool, but I barely use them! I prefer to use no filter.
We have a challenge for you ! You drew Nikita and Sun Meduse. Could you make a drawing of Jumpy boots ?
BOOM !

And there you have it! Virginie is on Instagram, she’s a total inspiration for anyone who wants to get stuck in and get creative! Our Méduse inspire her – and surprise surprise – we are in love with her work.
Thanks Virginie! X

Méduse Diary – Expressing Méduse

26 Mar , 2015

cut strip

Each week we cover a theme that is close to our jelly-hearts. We love to dig deep and write our thoughts on trends, fiction and culture in our diary here!

Our Méduse – they’re a character which can be expressed in many ways! It’s our best friend and we can take them wherever we want, whenever we want. But it got us thinking about how we express our Méduse. And well… we came to the conclusion, that there is no answer.

You can express them in any way you want. And they can be expressed in any way possible. Whether sketched, or worn with crazy colourful socks, or even left to hang on a window. Each Méduse, in any setting expresses something different.

Take a look!

Hanging by a window… orange SUN sandals are lost in their own thoughts…

Méduse Talks… With Ruvé Staneke

25 Mar , 2015

Ruvé Staneke

At Méduse, we strive to seek out the underground talents who share our values. Every week,  a new star…

Ask yourself this – how do you express your Méduse? Is it by simply dancing with the colours on your feet? Or is it a sketch? Or something unknown?

Today we’re talking to a very special talent in the arts field. Her name is Ruvé Staneke, from sunny Australia and she’s a dreamer, thinker and true artist. She’s sketched Méduse jellies, and her other works drift you off into a dreamland. We’ll let Ruvé take stage now!

Ruve Staneke Meduse Jelly Shoes Sketch

WOW! You’ve got quite a lot going on this year! Tell us about your latest projects and what are hoping to achieve?

Yes I do have many exciting things planned for this year! I have two exhibitions on display and through the two shows I am hoping to gain a higher status as an emerging artist in my community and bring about change through creativity. I am also currently working on pieces for major national and international art competitions. Art isn’t just about creating a pretty picture. It’s about creating works that are evocative. I want my pieces to be my voice when I am not literally speaking.

We know that you dream a lot as we saw your amazing self-portrait ‘Dreamer’ … where do you see yourself between dream and reality?

Thank you! For me, dreams are not intangible, they are not just thoughts, speculations, or ideals I wish to reach at a future time. My life is my dream. If I have a thought and I decide within myself that, that thought or ‘dream’ should come to pass, then I instantly act upon it and make plans on how to achieve it. There aren’t two state of minds, it is the one mentality: my dreams are my thoughts, and my thoughts become my words, which then become my reality.

Dreamer, by Ruvé Staneke

What makes your art so unique? How do the colours, techniques and textures define your art being individual to you?

Simply the fact that I did it makes it unique! Apart from that, I believe it is unique conceptually. In a world full of despair, hopelessness, and insecurity, I aim to bring life through the stories that my pieces tell. Regarding colours, techniques, and textures, there’s really nothing much that is unique, because everything has already been done in previous generations. However, I do enjoy the realism and hyper-realism style, so my brush strokes are often very carefully calculated, as too are the colours and textures, so that the end result looks as close to real life as possible.

Warrior by Ruvé Staneke

At Méduse, we’re all about living the colourful life! What are the little things in life, which give you that happy, buzzing feeling?

Making other people smile, and laugh. When I went to Cambodia on a mission trip last year, I went out to one of the slums to help build a small house. When I was there, I blew up balloons and played with the local children who were living in a tin shack. They had so little, yet they were the happiest children I’ve ever seen. I also love just sitting on the grassy lawn, eyes on the stars, taking in the expanse of mystery and extreme beauty that lay above me, listening to cicadas chirp as the summer breeze washes over me.

Ruve Staneke Sketch Meduse Jelly Shoes

RANDOM QUESTION! Imagine you had Play Doh in your hands – what would you make?

I’d have to say roll it into the good old play dough ball and then use it as a stress ball and knead it till it sticks to my hands! Or I’d just throw it at people 😉

10 SECOND SKETCH! We challenge you to time yourself and sketch what ‘jelly love’ means to you. Go!

I did it three times, one is jelly 😉

Ruvé Staneke Jelly Meduse Sketch Challenge

And now it’s our turn to send back our jelly-love! Ruvé – we know you’re gonna make it! Your work is incredible, like no other. We’d love to thank you for your contribution to Méduse, we know you’re busy forever sketching, so we truly appreciate it!

If you’d like to see more of Ruvé’s works, you can discover her art on her website and Instagram.

Au revoir, for now!

Méduse Talks… With Emma Eliott

20 Mar , 2015

Close Up Emma's Meduse Jumpy Boots

At Méduse, we strive to seek out the underground talents who share our values. Every week,  a new star…

It’s officially Spring today! Yes, the clouds may still be hanging about, but we’re certain that the sun will shine… soon!

But to get us prepped and ready for Spring fashion trends, we spoke to a fashionista who’s in love with vintage style, photography and is a total Jumpy lover! Her Instagram is a place where you can daydream about walks in nature, scrummy food and life in her Jumpy boots (there’s lots of them!). It’s Emma Eliott!

Emma in Black Jumpy Boots
Spring is coming!  Are you more flower power or rockstar?

I would say I am more “flower power!”
I am nowhere near cool enough for Rock Star!
I try to be a really happy and positive person and I love to put a quirky spin on any style I embrace, I love to look at things a little differently!
Emma Eliott in Black Jumpy Boots
Describe this season in 3 words.
I think for me especially in my role in retail, I get such a thrill buying and seeing each new season unfold.
This season to me can be summed up as, pastels, monochrome, and prints. (So hard for me not to say AMAZING, INSPIRING, ASPIRATIONAL before each one!)
Emma's Meduse Jumpy Styleboard
Which colour Méduse says ‘spring’ to you and why?
I have to say that the colour Méduse that makes me so excited and totally embodies spring for me is the SUN Paille sandal.
sunpaille__074895800_1712_18112014
They are so fresh and cheerful in daffodil yellow that they would look super cute with pretty ankle socks and boyfriend jeans right now and amazing in the hot sun with a pretty little summer dress. Just gorgeous!!
Emma's Meduse Jumpy Boots
We love your pics on Instagram… Tell us, what is your favourite Instagram filter? What does it say to you?
Posting pictures on Instagram gives me such pleasure! And has really allowed my confidence in my style to grow.
My favourite filter is for sure Valencia, it works so well at diffusing the light in a gentle way, with a cool yellow tint that really brings my pictures to life. It says “fresh” which resonates with me as I love to look at fashion and styling in a fresh and new way.

Quirky question alert!

When is your birthday and what would be your ideal gift?

Well! My birthday falls on September 23rd and I have to be honest I have got my heart set on a pair of Méduse Jumpy in Saumon/Crêpe.
jumpysaumoncrepe__083221300_1751_18112014
I love, love this colour! It is neutral enough enough to work with any outfit and pretty enough to cheer up any rainy September days that Autumn may bring! Heaven!
Emma Eliott in Black Jumpy Boots 2
What superpower do you wish you had?
Oooooo! If I had a super power it would definitely be the ability to be invisible!
Just imagine all the front row shows at Paris fashion week I could sneak into!!! Wearing my Méduse Jumpy’s of course!!
Emma, you’ve totally got us in the mood for Spring. COME ON SUNSHINE!

We hope you have lots of fun with all your Jumpy boots, and we want to thank you for your contribution to the Méduse world!
And to all our dear friends, check out Emma’s Instagram here. It will make you smile, for sure! X

Méduse Talks With… Victoria, Laugh of Artist

18 Mar , 2015

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 preset

At Méduse, we strive to seek out the underground talents who share our values. Every week,  a new star…

She is a rock’n’roll artist full of inspiration and style. From her little blue cloud, Victoria tells us the story of her blog, Laugh of Artist. She kindly shares with us her inspirations, her travels and propels Méduse in a new world!

Victoria1

You called your blog “Laugh of Artist”. It is a very pretty name! Where does it come from?

You must know that I have this motto tattooed below my left rib. This sentence is a wink to the world I used to evolve in and still am: the artistic domain. I also named my Instagram after it and when I decided to launch my blog, it obviously came to my mind.

You know at Méduse we are fond of colours, which one will you choose to celebrate the coming Spring?

A soft blue, sky blue?

You know how to remain chic and fashion in the city as well as in the countryside. What 3 items would you wear with your Méduse for the city-life?  And what about countrylife?

For the country? Definitely some destroyed boyfriend style jeans tucked up on a pair of khaki Méduse – the cool style mastered! Who said we cannot be stylish in the countryside! For the city? Some black slim-fit jeans and a pair of fuchsia Méduse SUN jellies teamed with a small black party bag. Chic but quirky :-)Victoria3

At Méduse, we are absolute adventure fans! Where would you take us and why?

To the USA. It was my longest and most recent travel and I had the chance to go on a road trip, to discover fascinating villages and various climates. It would be perfect since I could wear my Méduse sandals during the day and change to my Jumpy boots when the weather gets wet at night :-)

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 preset

A pair of Méduse never travels alone; what accessories (newspaper, book,CD… anything you love…) would you bring with your Méduse?

In my suitcase, I would take my Paulette Magazine, an iPad, a soft pullover, a cosy coat, a pair of slim-fit jeans, a pair of boyfriend jeans, my book of the moment, my fave rings, a pair of boots (glittery Jumpy boots / Jumpail) and a pair of Méduse heeled sandals  (Nikita argent).

What kind of music would you dance to in your Méduse?

A good summer mix for the sandals and real rock with the boots :-)

Victoria2

La la la! We are now dancing all over the place! Victoria, you definitely are a star and you brought the best ideas to kick-off spring with bundles of energy. Thank you!

Besides daydreaming on her blog, we are following Victoria on Twitter and Instagram. Guys, you should do the same!
