Méduse talks with… KADI LV

25 May , 2016

Say hello to Kadi, a Parisian Art Director, who is fascinated by Korean fashion and the digital world. Make room for our creative dreamer…

M: Hey there Kadi! We’re pleased to have you in the hot-seat! So we’ll give the mic to you! Tell us more about yourself!
K: Hi everyone, my name is Kadi! I am a Parisian 26 year old, crazy about digital and fashion. As a career, I am an Digital Art Director in an agency. In my personal life, I have a fashion blog, Kadi LV, which I created over a year ago. I made it after one of my friends told me to do so, and I don’t regret it in the slightest! I love writing articles, especially about my outfits, inspired by Korean fashion.

M: As you’re an Art director, you must have plenty of cool creative things to keep you busy. Can you tell us more about the projects you work on? Have you always had an artistic mind?
K: In general, I work on website creation for ad campaigns, mobiles and web apps. I also make visuals for specific brands on social networks (mostly on Facebook and Instagram).
Concerning the projects, there are a lot in agencies! My favourite brands that I’ve been working for are Puma and Sony, in partnership with Spotify. It’s a real pleasure because they have a real visual universe which is awesome!
Regarding creation, I have studied art but I always liked painting and drawing (even writing novels) when I was younger. I would say that I have an artistic mind. Nevertheless, digital creation requires a lot of technical skills, which I acquired with different formations.

M: Of course, you’re a fashionista, just like us! What are the trends and styles you’ll be sporting this spring?
K: With great weather just around the corner, open air festivals are on their way (for example Coachella, which just ended). Thus, light blouses, white or with coloured floral patterns are a must have for this spring. Also, casual boho dresses paired with a denim jacket for the day, and with a leather jacket for the night. The good weather gives us the perfect opportunity to wear sandals or ballerinas :-).

M: We have a little fashion challenge for you, and we’re sure you’re gonna ace it. Could you pair one of our summer shoes with a few clothes and accessories you have your eye on?
K: This was a tricky one for me, but my favourite pair is the Capri model in silver. I love the criss-cross design and I think it can fit with a lot of different outfits, for day or night! I have paired it with this gorgeous Oasis dress, a Nasty Gal leather jacket, a Kenzo Kalifornia bag, Quay sunglasses and for a little touch of Korean fashion, a necklace and a bracelet from Kitsch Island.

M: We’re loving the monochrome! Thanks for your fashion inspo, Kadi! Cheers for the chat! Until next time…

Méduse talks with… Emma’s Looking Glass

25 Nov , 2015

Interview Emma's Looking glass
Last time, we got close with fashion & beauty pro Les idées SoAddict, this week it’s all about Emma’s Looking Glass.

Through chronic illness, Emma decided to set up a blog, so that she had a platform to share her passions, including details of her own style, tasty treats, intricate illustrations and more with the world.

“For Autumn I love mustard yellows, sage green and burgundy colours, it makes me happy to see them on trend this year.”

samantha walden
M – Emma! So we’ve spotted that not only are you a fashion & lifestyle blogger, but you’re also an artist, photographer – and cat lover! Could you tell us a bit more about yourself, your projects and your blog?
E – I’ve always been really creative and I trained at the London college of fashion back in 2009 before becoming chronically ill. I have two long term illnesses, ME/CFS and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, both have had a dramatic effect on all aspects of my life. It was hard to come to terms with a much slower pace of life at such a young age and left me feeling like I had lost my identity. I wasn’t really aware of blogging until my friend from uni suggested I started a blog, I always enjoyed modelling her creations when we were studying, so the idea of sharing my outfits seemed like a fun idea. A few years on and I don’t know where I would be without my own creative space online, Emma’s Looking Glass has really helped me to engaged with the outside world as well as allowing me to be creative when my body allows it. It’s also helped me maintain and improve my photography skills. I hope one day to be well enough to own an online shop to sell my own illustrations and photography prints. That’s the dream! But for now I focus my energy on smaller projects, earlier this year I created 8 personalised illustrations which I sold with all profits going towards a fund raiser for ME Research Uk, I also dressed up as a princess for a day – which I blogged as an outfit and was a lot of fun too! Both projects combined raised £1189.04 for charity which I’m very proud of.

M – We’ve noticed you’re flaunting many floral prints, yet you’re loving autumn on your Instagram! What styles will you be wearing this season? Are there any particular shades that you think fit the season?
E – I do love a good floral print but sometimes I just want to step away from them, on those days I pick stripes. I have at least 10 striped tops. I think it’s becoming a bit of an issue! For Autumn I love mustard yellows, sage green and burgundy colours, it makes me happy to see them on trend this year.
windram design
M – You’re a foodie with many quirky recipes in stock! Which treats are you addicted to at the moment?
E – I have a really sweet tooth, I’d be happy to eat cake everyday, all day if I could. I also love salt and a silver lining of having Chronic illnesses is that my cardiologist recommends lots of salt! At the moment I’ve been enjoying some amazing homemade sea salted fudge that my best friend bought back for me from a trip to Cornwall a few weeks ago. It’s a great treat that I can’t leave alone!
woodland cakes
M – Challenge time! With autumn well and truly here, our Jumpy boots are hot on the scene. Thus we challenge you to mock up a styleboard using a pair from our Jumpy boot collection! How would you pair it with accessories and clothes? Up for the challenge? 😉
E – I loved picking out an outfit for this challenge! I’m currently obsessed with this Mod Dolly acorn shirt and I think pinafore dresses are so sweet and versatile this time of year.  I’ve picked out the tan buckle detailing to the Méduse boots and used that as a base colour for the coat and bag which I think would tie the look in nicely. I hope you like it!

Thank you so much for your time Emma, we agree that dressing as a princess for the day should be a standard! Keep in touch with Emma’s crafts, recipes and outfits on her blog & amazing Instagram!

Méduse Original People

Méduse Talks With… Camille

1 Jul , 2015

At Méduse, we strive to seek out the underground talents who share our values. Every week, a new star…

‘The best outfit to wear your jellies is the one when you feel like you’re on holiday.’

Whether she’s illustrating away or musing around town – you’ll always see the cool cat, Camille bopping around in her candy pink Méduse. We caught up with this bright artist who shares the secrets behind her talent! Make way!
M – We really like your illustrations and we notice you have an array of styles within your drawings. How would you describe your style?
C – Firstly, thank you for your interest in my illustrations! Indeed, I use different styles in my drawings. Usually, I make cartoon-style illustrations, with simple expressions and vivid colours – it’s a style which is spontaneous and fun! But I also like to create illustrations which are more realistic and perfectionist. It all depends on the subject. Sometimes, it’s important to come back to something more classical to improve the techniques, the perspectives and the proportions. Having different styles helps to keep an objective perception of my own style. I also like to adapt the illustrations depending on what they represent.
M – Do you have particular source of inspiration? Do some things inspire you more than others?
C – I mainly get inspiration from my daily life, my experiences and my moods. For a long time, I was writing a blog where I would try to bond my illustrations with some funny experiences which were happening to me, even though it was not always very exciting! Now, I start with short stories I get from writers. Or I draw what I observe and what strikes me.

M – We spotted a sneaky snippet of our Méduse in one of your photos on Facebook! What is your perfect outfit to wear with your Méduses?
C – Yes, I have a pair of SUN Bonbon sandals. I love to wear them all the time: at the beach, in the city, on my balcony, when shopping… The perfect outfit to wear with my jellies is the one that makes me feel like I’m on holiday. I often wear rough blue denim jeans, which are rolled up above the ankles – as if I was going fishing!
M – Here is a challenge for you! Could you create an illustration with a pair of Méduse? It can be anything you want, let your imagination run free!
C – Challenge accepted!

M – Finally, let’s take a step back to childhood. Could you tell us one of your memories with with Méduse?
C – The Méduses saved me from weevers in the water, many times when when I was a child. Luckily, my Méduses avoided me from getting bitten so I could fully enjoy swimming. Not only are they pretty shoes but they also insure your safety! Méduse is also necessary for pebble beaches !!

Yep! She said it. Wear Méduse and you’ll be THE ultimate summer girl. High five to Camille for joining us here, we’re super happy to have her featured on our blog! Find all her illustrations on her portfolio and her Facebook page!

Blue Bike Jellies

Explore ‘A Week With Méduse’ to find our highlights, picks and Méduse photos from fans around the world.

If you’ve been keeping your eyes peeled this week, you’ll know that we’ve been feeling rather arty and abstract.

Yep, this week was all about expressing yourself (just like Labrinth), and in our case – Expressing Méduse!

So with that in mind, we spoke to two very, very talented girls, who express Méduse in their own individual way.

First we spoke to Ruvé Staneke, an Australian artist who creates self portraits and can dream and sketch jellies!

And yesterday, we spoke to Virginie! A girl who loves to dive into creating NIKITA and JUMPY! Take a look at this!

Méduse Talks… With Virginie Cappoen

27 Mar , 2015

At Méduse, we strive to seek out the underground talents who share our values. Every week,  a new star…

Since we spotted her artwork, we were dreaming about getting in touch with her… If you’re used to hanging out on our blog, you can’t have missed it – Virginie, is an exceptional artist, and she expresses her Méduse like a true artist, who is in her zone with a crayon or paint brush in hand.

A fan of our NIKITA, she told us a story about Méduse and she took us by the hand, through her playground. As she voices her words – everything comes to standstill.

VC - SUN Meduse VC - NIKITA GREEN Meduse

Where does your inspiration come from?
I try to grab inspiration from a lot of things. It could be an object, an image, an exhibition or a film! Childhood is an endless source of inspiration. Indeed, my favourite artists have a very childish style to them. It’s impossible to mention them all, but among them you can find Steinberg, Picasso, Twombly, Basquiat, Sottsass, Cocteau… I like art to be spontaneous, refined, clumsy, funny and not pretentious. And generally, I like fantasy, humour, romanticism and poetry!
Your work is defined through particular use of colours. How do you decide on the use of certain colours? Is it impulsive or do you think about it beforehand?
Adding colour within art is not an easy step. From time to time you can have unexpected outcomes, but I like to try a lot of different techniques: acrylic, watercolours, felt-tip pens, colouring pencils and pastels – which I like the most!
We love your work on Méduse – of course 😉 ! How does the Méduse world inspire you?
I am a total fan of Méduse! I like the quirky side and the playfulness. Of course it reminds me of my childhood. They are really comfortable and you can have all the colours! I almost only wear them in the summer! I can’t live without them!
If you had play-doh in your hands right now, what would you do with it?
I would try to create a Méduse collection!
What is your favourite Instagram filter for posting your picture?
All these filters are really cool, but I barely use them! I prefer to use no filter.
We have a challenge for you ! You drew Nikita and Sun Meduse. Could you make a drawing of Jumpy boots ?
VC - Jumpy RED Meduse VC - JUMPY spot Meduse
VC - JUMPY quirky Meduse VC - JUMPY b&W MEduse
And there you have it! Virginie is on Instagram, she’s a total inspiration for anyone who wants to get stuck in and get creative! Our Méduse inspire her – and surprise surprise – we are in love with her work.
Thanks Virginie! X

Méduse Diary – Expressing Méduse

26 Mar , 2015

cut strip

Each week we cover a theme that is close to our jelly-hearts. We love to dig deep and write our thoughts on trends, fiction and culture in our diary here!

Our Méduse – they’re a character which can be expressed in many ways! It’s our best friend and we can take them wherever we want, whenever we want. But it got us thinking about how we express our Méduse. And well… we came to the conclusion, that there is no answer.

You can express them in any way you want. And they can be expressed in any way possible. Whether sketched, or worn with crazy colourful socks, or even left to hang on a window. Each Méduse, in any setting expresses something different.

Take a look!

Hanging by a window… orange SUN sandals are lost in their own thoughts…

Jumpy in abstract – what do you make of this expression?

Ready to hit the road. Ready to take on the world.

Who wants to spring into spring? We’re ready.

Bundles of energy. Out on an adventure.

Méduse Talks With… Victoria, Laugh of Artist

18 Mar , 2015

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 preset

At Méduse, we strive to seek out the underground talents who share our values. Every week,  a new star…

She is a rock’n’roll artist full of inspiration and style. From her little blue cloud, Victoria tells us the story of her blog, Laugh of Artist. She kindly shares with us her inspirations, her travels and propels Méduse in a new world!

You called your blog “Laugh of Artist”. It is a very pretty name! Where does it come from?

You must know that I have this motto tattooed below my left rib. This sentence is a wink to the world I used to evolve in and still am: the artistic domain. I also named my Instagram after it and when I decided to launch my blog, it obviously came to my mind.

You know at Méduse we are fond of colours, which one will you choose to celebrate the coming Spring?

A soft blue, sky blue?

You know how to remain chic and fashion in the city as well as in the countryside. What 3 items would you wear with your Méduse for the city-life?  And what about countrylife?

For the country? Definitely some destroyed boyfriend style jeans tucked up on a pair of khaki Méduse – the cool style mastered! Who said we cannot be stylish in the countryside! For the city? Some black slim-fit jeans and a pair of fuchsia Méduse SUN jellies teamed with a small black party bag. Chic but quirky :-)Victoria3

At Méduse, we are absolute adventure fans! Where would you take us and why?

To the USA. It was my longest and most recent travel and I had the chance to go on a road trip, to discover fascinating villages and various climates. It would be perfect since I could wear my Méduse sandals during the day and change to my Jumpy boots when the weather gets wet at night :-)

Processed with VSCOcam with p5 preset

A pair of Méduse never travels alone; what accessories (newspaper, book,CD… anything you love…) would you bring with your Méduse?

In my suitcase, I would take my Paulette Magazine, an iPad, a soft pullover, a cosy coat, a pair of slim-fit jeans, a pair of boyfriend jeans, my book of the moment, my fave rings, a pair of boots (glittery Jumpy boots / Jumpail) and a pair of Méduse heeled sandals  (Nikita argent).

What kind of music would you dance to in your Méduse?

A good summer mix for the sandals and real rock with the boots :-)

La la la! We are now dancing all over the place! Victoria, you definitely are a star and you brought the best ideas to kick-off spring with bundles of energy. Thank you!

Besides daydreaming on her blog, we are following Victoria on Twitter and Instagram. Guys, you should do the same!

Diary of a Little Leopard Jumpy Boot

10 Mar , 2015

Méduse Jumpy boot panther animal print

After launching our ‘Get Jumpy’ competition, we started daydreaming about life in Jumpy boots… we then thought, what would it be like to be a Jumpy boot! Our imagination (as expected) ran away with us – we wondered and pondered about the life of a little leopard Jumpy boot….

So! What would a day be like if we were a leopard print jumpy boot…? Would we be stylish? Chic? A little bit wild?

‘Finally rolled out of bed this morning after scrolling through Instagram, I’m forever looking to put new stuff in my apartment! I tend to find myself regularly pining over pictures of some really funky interior – but, OMG! This morning, I must have stared at this beautiful fur collar for 20 minutes? Yep, I want it. But anyway, it’s got me thinking – maybe I need something else to be obsessed with lol! Too often I wear the same Fedora hat. I mean come on – everyone has that one thing they feel completely lost without. I suppose for me at the moment, it would have to be that Fedora hat haha!

As a writer, I tend to find papers and all sorts of crazy notes all over the place! But after I FINALLY  organise my stuff together, I leave with a spring in my step – I just can’t get enough of this tune. Have you heard it? It’s ‘My Head is a Jungle’ from Méduse Jungle playlist – OH IT’S TOO GOOD! But anyway, today I’m going out to find some ideas for a writing about art – crazy abstract, beautiful art.

It’s great being in a job where being outspoken and expressing my opinions is a good thing… because, that’s what I’m best at! The streets of Paris are all I need for some ideas – the gritty-ness of the streets, alongside the chic, elegance of Paris overall. The street art is pure inspiration. Look at how awesome this is – need I say anymore?

People always question abstract and street art, but I think it’s punchy, bold and a statement – art should never be boring, right? Working for myself means doing everything for myself, so my day to day life varies so much. One minute I find myself with a non-stop, crazy calendar, and the next is as peaceful as floating in the sky…

Anyway! I’ve got to go now! I’m off to an arty-get-together – I told you life gets crazy!
